Menotti!

Had lunch fellowship with the Leviticus band members a couple of weeks ago. It was quite fun, with Gin's lame jokes and all. We rarely get a chance to hang out together. I seriously wonder why we don't go out for lunch after practice. :x

Anyway, the food was good! Cheaper than I expected too :)

Jason Mraz
Life is Wonderful

It takes a crane to build a crane
It takes two floors to make a story
It takes an egg to make a hen
It takes a hen to make an egg
There is no end to what i'm saying
It takes a thought to make a word
And it take some words to make an action
It takes some work to make it work
It takes some good to make it hurt
It takes some bad for satisfaction

La la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la

It takes a night to make it dawn
And it takes a day to make you yawn brother
It takes some old to make you young
It takes some cold to know the sun
It takes the one to have the other
It takes no time to fall in love
But it takes you years to know what love is
It takes some fears to make you trust
It takes some tears to make it rust
It takes some dust to make it polished

Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la it is so....

It takes some silence to make sound
It takes some loss before you found it
It takes a road to go nowhere
It takes a toll to make you care
It takes a hole to make a mountain

Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful

Ah la la la la la la life is meaningful
Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la it is so wonderful

It is so meaningful
It is so wonderful
It is meaningful

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full they agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar . Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things- your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions--things that if everything else was lost and only they remained ...your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.
The sand is everything else -- the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal."

Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee%2A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

Singapore wows Vancouver visitor
By Michael Geller (The Straits Times, Review Section, Friday 27 April 2007)

IN THE early 1970s, I worked with British architects and planners at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp in Ottawa, helping to design public housing projects across Canada. In the evenings, I 'moonlighted'. My after-hours job was a residential high-rise along the Rideau Canal.

The developer was Mr William Teron, who would go on to become president and chairman of the national housing agency. At a public meeting, one of the neighbours opposed the development on the grounds that it would block her view of the Parliament Buildings. 'Furthermore,' she said, 'the building is just for rich people.' I will always remember Mr Teron's reply. 'Well, the rich have to live somewhere too, you know!'

I thought of this when I arrived in Singapore. Here, the British tradition of public housing has continued in a significant way; here, a large percentage of the population resides in housing developed by the government, many of them in homes they own.

Both renters and owners take great pride in their homes, most of which are in large high-rise blocks. In fact, each year the government has a competition to determine who lives in the cleanest public housing estate in the city. A prize is given to the winning residents.

This got me thinking. Perhaps the British Columbia Housing Management Commission should consider a similar competition in B.C. My hope would be that Vancouver's public housing residents would start taking a similar sense of pride in their buildings. I am confident that the savings in maintenance and repairs costs would more than offset the cost of prizes!

Sense of pride is very evident around Singapore. While we often hear people ridicule the country for its public prohibitions - no chewing gum, no spitting, no littering - Singapore has to be the cleanest country in the world.

During my stay, I did not see any litter on the streets, despite the daily handout of flyers and the presence of numerous fast-food outlets. There is no graffiti; the streets are beautifully landscaped and maintained.

Singapore is also one of the safest cities in the world. I believe there is a connection. To fully understand life in Singapore, one has to know what goes on behind the scenes.

I was fortunate in having Warren and Rilla Buckley show me around. This is the same Warren Buckley who helped make the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre an international success in the 1990s. For the past seven years, he has been CEO of Singapore's privately owned Suntec Convention Centre.

As we drove around the city, past the magnificent new concert hall and sold-out new-home projects, Warren spoke about traffic management and the sense of order on the streets. In an effort to reduce congestion, some cars have red licence plates and can only be used on weekends. Cars have a box on the dashboard that calculates tolls for using downtown roads at peak hours. There are lanes designated for public buses only at peak hours.

Although there is a high degree of government control, Singapore is not a 'dead' city. It is very vibrant and active 24/7. Its residents are obsessed with eating and shopping. Every street feels like Robson Street on a Friday night! This is partly due to the government's efforts to encourage people to live close to where they work. Major new mixed-use communities are being planned adjacent to the downtown on lands being reclaimed from the sea.

Singapore is an incubator for new urban ideas. Many taxis are fitted with speed monitors. If a driver exceeds the limit, a sound goes off in the car, and a light flashes on the roof. Most transit riders have an easy-to-use pre-paid plastic card. It calculates fares based on the distance travelled, and can be topped up as required.

When I first arrived in Singapore, Warren suggested that I visit the Urban Redevelopment Authority's City Gallery. It contains scale models and other displays to allow visitors to see what has been built and what is planned for the future.

While I was there, school children were enjoying interactive displays on storm-water management, park-space planning and other urban concepts. I started to chat to one well-dressed man examining a portion of the model with great interest. It turned out he was a real-estate investor, curious to see what was planned for a site near one he owned.

Many years ago, Mr Ray Spaxman and a group of civilly minded Vancouver urbanists had visions of a similar centre for the city. They called it The Urbanarium. Having now visited Singapore's centre, and an even more impressive facility in Shanghai, I think now is the time for Vancouver's real estate community, public and private sectors to sponsor something similar in Vancouver. It could be a venue for Lighting The City, an exhibition currently on display in Singapore's centre. It offers creative ideas to improve night lighting around the city.

While we are all increasingly conscious of the need to conserve energy, I particularly look forward to the proposal for 'shimmering floating lights along the river, to bring out the sense of water'. I can visualise a similar proposal for portions of False Creek or English Bay.

Perhaps we might also implement the red licence plates, plastic transit cards, and taxis with flashing lights! Now, as for the ban on chewing gum and littering...

Why are Singaporeans still complaining?

I'm back! :D

Two things have prevented me from updating the blog over the past weeks. First, I was simply too busy to do go online, not to say blog. Second, when I finally had the time to, my modem went crazy on me and is currently malfunctioning.

The event was crazy. Pre-event too. 8.30am to 10.30pm or even later days straight for almost 2 weeks. Wonder where I got my stamina. But, it's finally over! Working on the post-show report now, but it's not an urgent thing. So I can finally go home while the sun is still shining!

Show days were fun-interesting-tiring-frustrating-and a lot more. I'll upload the pictures another time!

Oh yes, I have another blog actually. I decided to set it up cos I was feeling that a larger part of my life should be dedicated to God. Go take a look at www.child-ofgod.blogspot.com :D

Have had a good long weekend. It wasn't like happening, but at least I managed to spend time with my friends.

Spent the entire day at Orchard on Saturday after worship prac. Went shopping with Candy and Cheng. But all three of us had no intention of spending much money that day, so the shopping was a little boring. We just walked past shops without really, you know, shopping. Spent more money on food actually :)

But, we managed to watch a movie. Meet the Robinsons. It was, a little lame, but the story behind was good. And we watched it in the Grand Cathay! It was really cool, like a theatre with curtains and all. Something funny happened before we went in. We were actually deciding between Reaping and Meet the Robinsons when buying the tix, and somehow I decided on the latter. However, while we were waiting for the time to enter the cinema, Cheng and Candy suddenly regretted the decision, and I told them that we can try changing the tix and the box office. After much hemming and hawing, Cheng finally plucked up enough courage to ask. But it was too near the show, so they couldn't change it for us.

Then, came Sunday. Combined YA was fun, though a rather messy at the start. Thank God it got better after that. Went for lunch at Serangoon Garden with the cell grp after that. It wasn't that good at first cos Country Manna refused to join tables for us despite the space they have, and Cafe Cartel had a full hse. So, we were left with no choice but a new Thai restaurant. The ppl there are friendly and polite. But, this girl made tons of mistakes, and the food was bad. It really not a place I'll recommend. Nth good to say abt it. They even made a mistake in the bill - they did not charge us for two dishes we ordered. There was a hair in one of the dishes and my friend was nice enough to not ask for a new one. But they shld at least volunteer to change it right. Seriously bad. But the company was good, so ya.

Next week's a new week. Things are getting busier in the office cos the show's only 2 weeks away. Why can't these ppl just pay up???

Oh yes, I've finally finished watching the CSI:NY dvd! Two seasons. So feel like buying the dvd in Singapore though it'll probably cost a bomb. The show's really really good. The CSI series are one of the few shows that do not turn sucky after the first or 2nd season. Friends is another one. Others like Desperate Housewives, Felicity, The O.C. and several, the 2nd seasons and so on were bad. I mean Desperate Housewives was very nice and funny in Season 1. But after that, those ppl really got desperate. Its like, all the men, but Mike Delfino and Lynette's husband are the bad. Most of the neighbours have sth wrong, Susan slps around like nobody's business, Brie has "control problems", Edie is, no need to say, a _ _ _ _ _, Lynette is manipulative, and Gaby is, self-explanatory. I like Lynette the best, cos whatever she doe is for somebody she cares abt. Other than that... Fraser is another good show. I can see why he wins an Emmy every yr :)

Finally got to blog!

Started work last Monday, more of not used to coming home late everyday rather than having to wake up early actually. It's not exactly late.. I reach home at abt 8 plus if I manage to finish my stuffs fast enough. But I miss the times when I only need to spend three to four hrs at school before going home. :P

Work has been good. I'm occupied enough for time to pass by quickly. I hope I'll be this busy always. :D Sounds a little masochistic, but yeah. I don't really like to be idle with nothing to do. I'll get so restless.

Anyways, I think a lot of ppl still do not really understand what I am really working as, as well as what my division does. But I'm too lazy to explain here. :DD If you really want to know, pls ask me when you see me in person k?

Anyanyway, my colleagues and superiors are really nice and funny!

Ok, that's all I'm in the mood to blog now. I shld have photos to blog, but have not met Jiahong online yet....

Oh yes, pls tag!

Movies!

Why does it always happen so that I can pass 4 or 5 mths without watching a single movie and suddenly watch 2 movies in a single week? Y'all know that I went to watch Pursuit of Happyness past Mon. On Wednesday, I watched Music and Lyrics with Jane.

No matter how sua gu this sounds, I visited The Cathay for the first time on Wednesday. Discovered a completely lovable shop there. They had all these cute notebooks, photoalbums and what nots. You can imagine how I much love that shop seeing that I love shops like Prints and AnBC. =))

Anyways, Music and Lyrics was better than I expected. Hugh Grant, a confirm lao eng gee was very very funny. His sarcastic remarks, and the stupid dance moves. They make me giggle everytime I see them. You really have to catch the movie to know what I'm talking abt. And Drew Barrymore's soo pretty. And she was her typical blurr character, which was actually the main reason I didn't want to watch the movie. But... as you can see, I enjoyed it.

Photos!

Isn't he cute??

Went to watch Pursuit of Happyness yesterday with Karen and Ginnette.

It was a very very good show. A must watch! Don't know why Ben didn't like it. It's not really a feel-good story, cos the show's sad 80% of the time. But it is inspiring, and it explains why some ppl slog so hard at work. I think as Singaporeans we complain too much abt work that we don't really appreciate what work gives us and we don't realise that we have to enjoy work cos it's what that occupies 45hrs of our time every week.

And jaden smith was just soo cute!

Anyways, the good night was marred by the horrible service of Wheelock's Fish&Co. Not ever going back there again. We spent more than 35% of our time waiting. Waiting for the ice water, the extra sppon, the dessert, the bill.... In short, horrible service.

Have been going to town the past few days continuously, the transport costs are so high!

Went to orchard on Thurs to buy my niece's birthday present. I serioosly cannot shop at AnBC. I feel like buying almost everything there! Anyways, cos my niece is 8, we decided to buy her 8 items. So we bought mechanical pencil, notebook, stickers and so on. Pink and purple, cutesy stuffs that an 8 yr old would love. After seeing all those things, I couldn't help wanting to be 8 again. =))

Went to sign the contract for my job on Friday. Had to do a medical checkup too.

Saturday was a long day. Went for band prac in the mrng, then home. Then out again to my niece's birthday party, which coincidentally was at Jialin's condo. We took lots of photos.. Can't wait to see them! The food was bad, the cake was good. Went down to vivocity after that. Shopped, then to sakae for dinner. Had several hilarious moments then. We sat chatting till 9plus when we left in search on ben&jerry's :D Love hanging with my cuzzies!

Sunday was even longer than Sat. Woke up at 630 in the mrng for church. Then went to meet my cousin in Orchard to buy her stuffs. Then my sis came, and we waited for my mum. Shopped again. Bought shoes for work. My cousin was the biggest spender that day. Hahs. Anyway, dislike March. Cos of allll the birthdays taking place. 4 in all. And have to splurge on all 4. :( Then my dad came and we went to Sun with Moon at Wheelock! The food's superb! First time i ate sushi that costs $5 each! Haha. But it was very very good. I was so tired I slpt at 11 that night. :DD

Men are such contradictory creatures. Just a few days ago I was fretting over this job searching period of my life and so afraid that I won't be able to get a job. But now that I hv one, I dread going to work. Keep wondering if I will match up to their expectations, if I can perform up to task. Still do not know why they hired me. Starting work next week. Most prob on Tuesday.

FYI, I'll be working at suntec convention and exhibition centre as a proj coordinator. Don't ask me what my duties are 'cos I'm also not v sure. =P

Anyways, this is my good news from the previous entry.

BUT, seriously thank God for this. I actually got a job on my first interview. =DDD

Thursday, March 08, 2007

I'm bored. Only after a week of hols, I'm bored already. Is it a good sign? At least it shows that I'm not a slacker. =)

May have good news coming up in a few days. Pray for me, wish me luck, keep your fingers and toes crossed...

What's up with the use of "label" in blogs and the word random nowadays?

Here's a typical conversation between 2 old ladies who meet each other on the streets. (in Hokkien/Mandarin and a near shout)

Ah ma A: Where are you going?
Ah ma B: Huh?
A: Where are you going?
B: Oh, going to my daughter's place
A: Going to?
B: My daughter's place
A: Huh?
B: Going to my daughter's house
A: Oh, to your daughter's house..
B: Yes, going to my daughter's house

See how they manage to repeat sth 5 times in one conversation? =D

Super handsome. Absolute melts.

Is it even possible to be hurt by people who you think do not play a impt part in your life? It is a very minor matter. A mere slight. How? Plummets my spirits.

I so want to tell them that I am hurt by their actions. But it doesn't achieve anything.

Just a week or so ago, I was thinking that I have not had a sad entry in my blog for a long time.

Happy New Year!

Had a great first day of Chinese New Year yesterday! 'Cos it fell on a Sunday, it was a super long day for me. Woke up at 6 plus in the mrng to go to church, then to my ahma's hse. Used up half my energy playing monopoly with 2 kids. And I mean kids. 8 and 6 yrs old each. And I was harrassed by the 8 yr old girl. Super tiring la. But they're so cute!

Went over to my maternal aunt's hse in the evng. It was quite boring at first cos we had nth to do. Both the mahjong tables were occupied by the adults, nth good was on the tv.. In the end we went to my cousin's room to hv girls talk. Haha. After that we started playing blackjack. Yesterday's blackjack was the funniest ever. We spent more than half of the time rolling on the floor laughing. =DD

Friday, February 16, 2007

It was the last day of school today, if you do not consider the days when we have to come back for exams. Tuesday was our last tutorial, today's our last lecture, last meal in the school canteen..

But we had lots of fun today. Heh. Went around looking for teachers to pass them cards we made for them. And Ms Tirzah and Mdm Aisha were super funny. I think we spent abt half an hr in their room disturbing the other teachers with our laughter and jokes. I'm soo going to miss the teachers! And the food. And some tutorials and even a few lectures. =) And a certain part of my class. And Denise, Jiahong, Corrin.. And even AiLi, Wency and Harveen. And projects..

Happy Valentines Day

Kinda happy today, cos I rcved so many gifts.. No flowers though. Hehs :DDD

So thank you Denise, Corrin and Jiahong!

Thanks to Jane too!

Pictures of our last presentation..

Trying to take weird photos..

Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Yay!

Everything has finally come to an end. Well, not everything, cos we still have a test on Saturday, but still.. It's on Saturday, four days away Saturday! Hahs.

Today was the last presentation I'll ever have in poly. Went quite ok, though the teacher was v irritating. Took some photos, which was the best part. Hehs. I'm going to miss my grp mates.. I don't know if the cliche "being through a lot together" applies to us, but we definitely had tons of fun doing projects. I seriously do not think I'll hv as much fun with another grp, and I will not hv felt so comfortable. Plus, I trusted them.

To repeat myself, I'm going to miss them. Miss Corrin's hyper-ness after her caffeine shots from coke and all her silly cracks. Miss Denise's roll-eyes expression. Miss Jiahong's sit-by-the-side-and-laugh-at-us nature. Miss Calvin's irritating-ness. Er, maybe won't miss Calvin that much. =D

Some crazy photos.

It's February!

Irregular meals, irregular slping hours, irregular working hours.. all these will end on Monday!! Maybe not irregular meals though.. Hehs.

Sort of taxed out because of the past two weeks. Deadlines and tests all crammed into two or three weeks. Thank God these things do not leave a lasting impression on me.

Anyway, had good news from MA2 on Monday!! First time I did so well in a test since primary school? Hah. Hopefully the exam will be just as good. =)

Edited
Met a lot of ppl this week. No need to mention my poly friends la. Hehs.

Met Uncle Tony at a bus stop on Thursday I think. His car got into a minor accident on the way to school so he had to take bus.

Met Cheng, Rena and the rest for dinner for Rena's birthday that day too. It was very long day that day. Had reached sch at 9 plus for the stupid IB proj consultation which only managed to answer one qns. Managed to fill my time up till the time to meet them in the evening. Went to Aerin's at Raffles city. Waited for Candy for more than an hr. The food was a little disappointing, mayb cos my expectations were too high. The service was quite good tho.

On Saturday, we went to Mui Cher's hse for steamboat. But it was a bad turnout cos three of us couldn't make it. Disappointed. Very. Anyway, it turned out better than what we all expected. Her husky's very beautiful. Not v affectionate tho. Hehe.

-- edit:

Oh, I met Adib too while on the way home with Rena and Cheng. Loooong time no see. Miss his bullying, miss bullying him. I don't want to grow up. Seeing him, I feel like going back to secondary school, primary school even.

The Golden Goblet

-- Six Hours One Friday by Max Lucado

Flames leap from the hill. Pillows of smoke float upward. Orange tongues crack and pop.

From the midst of the blaze comes a yell – the protest of a prisoner as the dungeon door is locked; the roar of a lion as he feels the heat of the burning jungle.

The cry of a lost son as he looks for his father.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

The words ricochet from star to star, crashing into the chamber of the King. Couriers from a bloody battlefield, they stumble into the King’s presence. Bruised and broken, they plea for help, for relief.

The soldiers of the King prepare to attack. They mount their steeds and position their shields. They draw their swords.

But the King is silent. It is the hour for which he has planned. He knows his course of action. He has awaited those words since the beginning – since the first poision was smuggled into the kingdom.

It came camouflaged. It came in a golden cup with a long stem. It was in the flavour of fruit. It came not in the hands of a king, but the hands of a prince – the prince of shadows.

Until this moment there had been no reason to hide in the Garden. The King walked with his children and the children knew their King. There were no secrets. There were no shadows.

Then the prince of shadows entered the Garden. He had to hide himself. He was too ugly, too repulsive. Craters marred he face. So he came in darkness. He came encircled in ebony. He was completely hidden; only his voice could be heard.

“Taste it, “ he whispered, holding the goblet before her. “It’s sweet with wisdom.”

The daughter heard the voice and turned. She was intrigued. Her eyes had never seen a shadow. There was something tantalising about his hiddenness.

The King watched. His army knew the price of shadows would be no contest for their mighty legion. Eagerly they awaited the command to attack.

But no command was given.

“The choice is hers,” the King instructed. “If she turns to us for help, that is your command to deliver her. If she doesn’t turn, if she doesn’t look at me – don’t. The choice is hers.”

The daughter stared at the goblet. Rubies embedded in gold filigree invited her touch. Wine wooed her to taste. She reached out and took the cup and drank the poison. Her eyes never looked up.

The venom rushed through her, distorting her vision, scaring her sin, and twisted her heart. She ducked into the shadow of the prince.

Suddenly she was lonely. She missed the intimacy she was made to know. Yet rather than return to the King, she chose to lure another away from him. She replenished the goblet and offered it to the son.

Once again the army snapped into position. Once again they listened for the command of the King. His words were the same. “If he looks to me, then rush to him. If he doesn’t, then don’t go. The choice is his.”

The daughter placed the goblet into the hands of the son. “It’s all right,” she assured. “It’s sweet.” The son looked at the delight that danced in her eyes. Behind her stood a silhouetted figure.

“Who is he?” the son asked.

“Drink it,” she insisted. Her voice was husky with desire.

The goblet was cold against Adam’s lips. The liquid burned his innocence. “More?” he requested as he ran his finger through the dregs on the bottom and put it to his mouth.

The soldiers looked to their King for instructions. His eyes were moist.

“Bring me your sword!” The general dismounted and stepped quickly toward the throne. He extended the unsheathed sword before the King.

The King didn’t take it; he merely touched it. As the tip of his finger encountered the top of the sword, the iron grew orange with heat. It grew brighter and brighter until it blazed.

The general held the fiery sword and awaited the King’s command. It came in the form of an edict.

“Their choice will be honoured. Where there is poison, there will be death. Where there are goblets, there will be fire. Let it be done.”

The general galloped to the Garden and took his post at the gate. The flaming sword proclaimed that the kingdom of light would never again be darkened by the passing of shadows. The King hated the shadows. He hated them because in the shadows the children could not see their King. The King hated goblets. He hated them because they made the children forget the Father.

But outside the Garden the circle of shadow grew larger and more empty goblets littered the ground. More faces were disfigured. More eyes saw distortedly. More souls were twisted. Purity was forgotten and all sight of the King was lost. No one remembered that once there was a kingdom without shadows.

In their hands were the goblets of selfishness.

On their lips was the litany of the liar. “Taste it; it’s sweet.”

And, true to the words of the King, where there was poison, there was death. Where there were goblets, there was fire. Until the day the King sent his Prince.

The same fire that ignited the sword not lit a candle and placed it amidst the shadows.

His arrival, like that of the goblet bearer, did not go unnoticed.

“A star!” was how his coming was announced. “A bright light in a dark sky.” A diamond glittering in the dirt.

“Burn brightly, my Son,” whispered the King.

Many times the Prince of Light was offered the goblet. Many times it came in the hands of those who’d abandoned the King. “Just a taste, my friend?” With anguish Jesus would look into the eyes of the those who tried to tempt him. What is this poison that would make a prisoner try to kill the one who came to release him?

The goblet still bore the seductive flavour of promised power and pleasure. But to the Son of Light is odour was vile. The very sight of the goblet so angered the Prince that he knocked it out of the hand of the tempter, leaving the two alone, locked in an intense glare.

“I will taste the poison,” swore the King’s Son. “For this I have come. But the hour will be mine to choose.”

Finally that hour came. The Son went for one last visit with his Father. He met him in another garden. A garden of gnarled trees and stony soil.

“Does it have to be this way?”

“It does.”

“Is there no one else who can do it?”

The King swallowed. “None but you.”

“Do I have to drink from the cup?”

“Yes, my Child. The same cup.”

He looked at the Prince of Light. “The darkness will be great.” He passed his hand over the spotless face of his Son. “The pain will be awful.” Then he paused and looked at his darkened dominion. When he looked up, his eyes were moist. “But there is no other way.”

The Son looked into the stars as he heard the answer. “Then, let it be done.”

Slowly the words that would kill the Son began to come from the lips of the Father.

“Hour of death, moment of sacrifice, it is your moment. Rehearsed a million times an false altars with false lambs, the moment of truth has come.

“Soldiers, you think you lead him? Ropes, you think you bind him? Men, you think you sentence him? He heeds not your commands. He winces not at your lashes. It is my voice he obeys. It is my condemnation he dreads. And it is your souls he saves.

“Oh my Son, my Child. Look up into the heavens and see my face before I turn it. Hear my voice before I silence it. Would that I could save you and them. But they don’t see and they don’t hear.

“The living must die so that the dying can live. The time has come to kill the Lamb.

“Here is the cup, my Son. The cup of sorrows. The cup of sin.

“Slam, mallet! Be true to your task. Let your ring be heard throughout the heavens.

“Lift him, soldiers. Lift him high to his throne of mercy. Lift him up to his perch of death. Lift him above the people that curse his name.

“Now plunge the tree into the earth. Plunge it deep into the heart of humanity. Deep into the strata of time past. Deep into the seeds of time future.

“Is there no angel to save my Isaac? Is there no hand to redeem the Redeemer?

“Here is the cup, my Son. Drink it alone.”

God must have wept as he performed his task. Every lie, every lure, every act done in the shadows was in that cup. Slowly, hideously they were absorbed into the body of the Son. The final act of incarnation.

The Spotless Lamb was blemished. Flames began to lick his feet.

The King obeys his own edict. “Where there is poison, there will be death. Where there are goblets, there will be fire.”

The King turns away from his Prince. The undiluted wrath of a sin-hating Father falls upon his sin-filled Son. The fire envelops him. The shadow hides him. The Son looks for his Father, but his Father cannot be seen.

“My God, my God… why?”

The throne room is dark and cavernous. The eyes of the King was closed. He is resting.

In his dream he is again in the Garden. The cool of the evening floats across the river as the three walk. They speak of the Garden – of how it is, of how it will be.

“Father… ,” the son begins. The King replays the word again. Father. Father. The word was a flower, petal-delicate, yet so easily crushed. Oh, how he longed for his children to call him Father again.

A noise snaps him from his dream. He opens his eyes and sees a transcendent figure gleaming in the doorway. “It is finished, Father. I have come home.”

After having a wonderful dinner at Bakerzin, I went to Jialin's apt in Geylang to countdown with them. Was supposed to go to church for Watch Night Service, but they said it'll be very boring, so went to Jia's hse instead. Hehs. We played cards while watching the countdown. The boys were super funny la. Really bth their stupid jokes and antics. Hahs.

It's the end of the yr again. Told myself I'd do this, so here it is.

This yr passed by in a blur. Soo many things happened that I don't even rmb some of them. Hehs.

Anyway, just realised I said at the beginning of the yr that last passed very quickly too. Maybe every year passes very quickly.

I made the following resolutions the beginning of this yr:

First of all, is to stay strong in my faith.
Secondly, to grab opportunities when they arise.
Thirdly, to give without expecting.
Last of all, to learn to trust.

But I don't think I fulfilled any of them, except maybe for the first one. Oh, maybe the 2nd one too. hehs. I mean, I did grab the oppportunity to go overseas for attachment right?

As I said, many many things happened this past yr, things that I did not rmb until I went through my previous entries. Went through 2 n a half semesters this yr, and I must say that they were v eventful and lessons-rich.

From Sem 2.2 to 3.2, made new friends, lost friends, got super close to some, drifted away from some, saw some in new light, some are still seen in the same light. But I must say that every semester was filled with fun, laughter, a lot of hard work and frustration, and a great deal of satisfaction at the end of each sem. Even got to bid for a proj with a construction company outside of curriculum. Spent a lot of time fretting, worrying, and working on that. All for an empty hope.

Actually I have a lot to say, especially abt sem 3.1's projs. I think it goes for everyone of us in the class, at least most of them. But seriously, this event has put me off event planning, at least for the time being. A loong time. Used to want to be an event planner, having second thoughts even now.

Reading through my previous entries also reminded me of sth I wasted plenty of my time and emotions on. Bothered me for quite some time.

Went for my first church camp in June. Was an enriching time.

Then in Sept, I went to Shanghai for attachment. No need to say, that was the biggest happening this yr. Experienced a lot, met a lot of new friends and ppl.

When I came back I felt really alone for the first time in my life. Nobody to call, nobody to whine to, nobody to call for help, nobody to call for consolation. All in all, nobody.

Then I went back to school for the last semester of Poly. Can't believe 2.5 yrs have passed just like that. Having my exams in Feb, meaning I can start working in Mar. I am seriously very frightened of growing up.

This yr did not end with a bang. Christmas was alright. I've been rotting at home most of the time. Watching DVDs.

Don't feel like making resolutions this yr. Can't think of any anyways.
